How to monitor XenDesktop VDA registration Event ID's using EdgeSight

By default EdgeSight provide template to monitor VDA event ID which is for XD 4.0

Detail of this template point to the event ID which is meant for XD 4.0

So in order to monitor VDA 5.0 registration failure with DDC we need to create custom alert and update database with this event ID .

Select system Alerts in the below screen.

Select the windows event log on the next screen in order to define the event ID.

Here define the event ID 10500 and event source as Citrix Desktop Service

Here click on next to assign to the desktop site.

Here choose which desktop groups you need to apply this template to.

Here again choose and select desktop group .

Here choose to create the new alert action

Here select email as the notification mechanism.

Here choose the alert email recipient and the subject line. Click finish to come out of the loop.

Now we need to make changes to SQL to accept this event ID. Open the ES database and run the SQL queries

select * from alert_config . This will list the alertconfigid, choose the highest one. In my case it is 20

Now check the existing data which has been updated.

Select * from alert_config_value where alertconfigID=20

Now we have to database with more event id

update alert_config_value set key_value = '10501,10502,10508' where key_name='EventID' and alertconfigid=20

Rerun the select query Select * from alert_config_value where alertconfigID=20

to confirm if the other event ID is updated.

How to display more line item on Desktop Director DashBoard.

Quite confusing from the title of the blog , isn't it ? Well this has been a normal situation when dashboard is launched only 5 desktop group status will be shown on the dashboard as shown below.

This can be modified by changing IIS attribute of DesktopDirector application settings as shown below.

How to install Lotus SameTime 8.5.1 on Citrix PVS Streamed pooled desktop (VDI)

IBM Lotus Sametime is the enterprise communicator similar to OCS. It has similar feature as Microsoft OCA along with , it has ability to take screenshot and share over chat . Some of the cool feature liked by end users to have his/her own emotions on chat.

While installation is easy but it does not launch in PVS streamed VM's . PVS streamed VM uses roaming profile because of pooled environment . This can only be achieved via storing user's profile data on shared storage.

IBM Sametime does not like it because it has tendency to store it locally . Below screenshot shows that value called rcp.data store it locally. This setting does not allow the sametime to launch when desktop is access via ICA session.

To make it work , mount the roaming app data GPO by updating registry

And now make change to the file rcplauncher.properties by updating the field called rcp.data as shown below .

With this you would be able to launch IBM same time on streamed pooled VM.

How to Publish Google Chrome 13.0 with XenApp 6

To publish Google Chrome , we need to download standalone msi package from google

Install the standalone package and this will get installed under the user profile whoever is logged in. In this example Administrator is logged in hence the shown path . We need to copy Chrome.exe under 13.0.782.112 folder as shown below. Administrator folder should be given Modify permission for all the users.

Now create googleChorme.cmd file under program folder with shown entry.

Publish this CMD as usual using Citrix Delivery Console.

You can launch and safely ignore the message and use google chorm

How to install Desktop Director and configure for MultiSite in XenDesktop 5.0

When you have multiple site running XD 5.0 Farm and Help Desk want to use single desktop director to manage both farm . We need to update desktop director with other farm controller name

To install standalone desktop director you can run DDC 5.0 ISO and choose following . Update DDC FQDN in the given format and hit test

This will finish Desktop Director installation

Once installation done we need to open IIS management . Drill down to DesktopDirector and highlight Application setting.

This will bring all the setting related to Desktop Director . There are two setting which we need to modify in order to manage multiple site.

We need to change from 'false' to 'true'

Update here with all the controller FQDN to manage all the site.

Restart the IIS here and then browse to the page . This webpage will be different and here you wont get dashboard. Only thing can be done here is search users and then address the issue pertaining to the user. So it would be very important to decide if you like to make these changes and use it . This is with Desktop Director 1.0 . There are few changes which has been made to Desktop Director 2.0 which will allow you to manage XD 5.5 and XA 6.5 farm as well . Source is here

How to remove XenDesktop DDC5 gracefully from the XD5 farm

In my previous blog I mention hard way to remove stale DDC from XD database.

Launch the Desktop Studio and highlight controllers as shown below. Select the controller you want to remove and choose "Remove Controller"

This will prompt for action to update Database . Choose "NO " here

This will prompt for generating SQL script which needs to be run on SQL server database

Script looks like this . Copy this script

And then choose DDC database on SQL manager . Right click and select new script . Paste it from previous step and run "Execute"

Once the script is ran then it will give following message

Once Desktop Studio is update , controller will be removed

Run powershell command Get-BrokerController and confirm that other controller is out completely.

How to remove stale DDC from XenDesktop 5 Farm

Stale DDC inside XenDesk 5 Farm may get created because of various reason and this does not get removed unless database is cleaned.

1. If you run Get-brokercontroller from PS console of Desktop Studio then you see the stale entry. Below two stale entry for SID

S-1-5-21-1757981266-413027322-725345543-64627 and other one ending with 64712

2. Same thing will be shown via Desktop Studio

3. Following script needs to be run in same order from desktop studio PS console with XD database name

Get-ConfigDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid > EvictDDC.sql (Here we are creating EvictDDC.sql)
Get-AcctDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql(Here we are appending to EvictDDC.sql)
Get-HypDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql
Get-ProvDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql
Get-PvsVmDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql
Get-BrokerDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql

4. This is how Script needs to be run in following order . First SID variable needs to be set and then rest of the commands need to be run. Here we are creating EvictDDC.sql file which is nothing but a stored procedure

6. Now when we open this file with notepad following entry can be found.

7. Open SQL server management studio and select the database and then open new script. Select the content from EvictDDC.sql and paste as shown. Execute as shown below

8. Last command Get-BrokerDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql need to run as follows.

9. Sometime Get-BrokerDBSchema -DatabaseName <XD database name> -ScriptType Evict -SID $sid >> EvictDDC.sql will fail with following message. Create new store procedure using working XD SID and then replace host name and SID with non working SID.

10. Once all the above store procedure ran it will remove the stale entry from DDC

Even Desktop Studio will update the entry

Citrix SmartAuditor Policy Console is Unable to Load Farm Configuration

We were getting below mention error while installing SmartAuditor on SQL 2008 cluster . Tried following CTX123288 but looks like some changes is required from SQL 2008 cluster prospective.

Symptoms

When opening the Citrix SmartAuditor Policy Console, the following error message appears:

“Unable to connect to the SmartAuditor Server. Ensure that the SmartAuditor Server is running.
Unable to load farm configuration.
An error occurred while accessing the SmartAuditor Database. More details about the error have been logged on the server.”

Citrix SmartAuditor Events like the one below appear:

ICA sessions are not being recorded and ICL files only appear for a short time and then disappear.

Cause

Probable causes can include the following:

• The computer account for the Citrix SmartAuditor Server does not exist in the SmartAuditor Database.

• The computer account has been deleted and re-created using the same name resulting in a new Security Identifier being issued by Windows Active Directory.

Resolution

The computer account for the Citrix SmartAuditor server must be created in the Citrix SmartAuditor Database.

1. Go to the Microsoft SQL Server and launch the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

2. Under Object Explorer in the console, go to Databases\CitrixSmartAuditor\Schemas right-click and select New Schema.

2. A) Under Object Explorer in the console, go to Databases\CitrixSmartAuditor\Security\Schemas right-click and select New Schema.

3. In the Schema name: field enter the computer name of the Citrix SmartAuditor Server in this format Domain\Machine-Name$. For example, if the domain is Citrix and the hostname of the Citrix SmartAuditor server is SMARTAUDITOR01, then the entry should be: CITRIX\SMARTAUDITOR01$. Note that this entry is not case-sensitive.

4. Leave the entry for Schema Owner field blank. This will be taken care of later when the user account is created. Click OK to continue.

5. Back in the SQL Server Management Studio console, under Object Explorer, go to Databases\CitrixSmartAuditor\Users right-click and select New User.

5. A) Back in the SQL Server Management Studio console, under Object Explorer, go to Security\Logins right-click and select New Login...

6. The Database User – New dialog opens. Enter the computer account name (in the same format as used to create the Schema in step 3) for the User name, for the Login name, and for the Default Schema.

7. Under Owned Schemas, click on the check-box for the schema created for this computer account.

7. A) Now go to the CitrixSmartAuditor Database and expand to go to Security –> Users and Right click on the CITRIX\SMARTAUDITOR01$ which you have created and go to Properties. Under Owned Schemas, click on the check-box for the schema created for this computer account.

8. Under Role Members, click on the db_owner role.

The picture below shows the result of steps 6 through 8.

9. Click OK to continue.

10. Go back to the Citrix SmartAuditor Server and restart the Citrix SmartAuditor Storage Manager Service.

11. Test by opening the Citrix SmartAuditor Policy Console and by launching ICA sessions that are known to fit the criteria set in the Citrix SmartAuditor Policy Console for a recorded session.

How to enable DesktopViewer for Citrix Webinterface and PNA site.

Sometime desktop viewer is not available when it is launch via WebInterface . This can be made enabled via changing WebInterface.conf

This file will exist under each of the site which is created under IIS

Edit the file and remove the # and make it Off to ON

How to hide SEP (Symantec) notification for published XenApp application

When application is published from windows 2008 R2 machine having Symantec Endpoint Protection running , it shows up under connection center .

If you have multiple application there would be many such notification under connection center . In order to suppress it , GPO can be used to populate . These value can be found under CTX101644

After a registry deployment these notification will be disappear .

How to Hide selective drive for XenApp 6 or XenDesktop

There are many ways people go for hiding selective drives and hiding drives. I have tried creating ADM but does not looks to be a viable option .

The "NoDrives" value uses a 32-bit word to define local and network drive visibility for each logical drive in the computer. The lower 26 bits of the 32-bit word correspond to drive letters A through Z. Drives are visible when set to 0 and hidden when set to 1.

There are two registry entry which can make this happen

User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
Value Name: NoDrives
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

To determine the value, you need to do some little math

If you are not happy working in Hex, add these decimal numbers to hide the drive(s):

A: 1, B: 2, C: 4, D: 8, E: 16, F: 32, G: 64, H: 128, I: 256, J: 512, K: 1024, L: 2048, M: 4096, N: 8192, O: 16384, P: 32768, Q: 65536, R: 131072, S: 262144, T: 524288, U: 1048576, V: 2097152, W: 4194304, X: 8388608, Y: 16777216, Z: 33554432, ALL: 67108863

For example to hide drive A and drive D, you would add 1 (A) + 8 (D) which means the value should be set to "9".

To disable all the drives set the value to "67108863".

Now say you just want to show H drives to the user and hide rest of them then

All value =67108863 H: = 128 . Just to show H drive =67108863-128=67108735

The value for "NoDrives"= 67108735

To deploy this using GPO you need to do following setting under GPO,

This example is to show all except H: drive on XA box.

How to pre-populate domain name on Desktop Director web page

When you try to access desktop director web page , domain name needs to be typed every time.

So in order to pre populate with the domain name open Logon.aspx from following location using elevated command prompt

And made changes at following location

And then restart default IIS website

You will be doing this all on server where you have installed desktop director and then final result will be something like this

Citrix Provisioning Server and Active Directory password management

Most of you know when we provision vDisk using Citrix PVS (Provisioning Services ), PVS should be allowed to manage the machine account password . The reason in nutshell : vDisk is created using one master image with machine account in domain . Same image is streamed across multiple machine.

How we do this ? This setting is on PVS server setting

But problem start when you have following default Domain policy

Problem : When machine try to negotiate password after 30 days because of PVS setting AD does not allow to do so. Result of which machine goes out of password synch. This kicks machine out domain and Virtual desktop got unregistered from Desktop Delivery controller

This policy as per Citrix PVS eDocs and also one more eDocs suggest to set this to "Enabled". So how you would like to tackle this situation.

1. If above setting is not followed with password age then you can define password age policy and apply to OU which is meant for Virtual Desktop. As shown below for 999 days PVS will enjoy managing provisioned machine password.

2. Windows following Netlogon service tried to negotiate machine password when it expires. This is stored under

3. If the value is set to "0 " then AD will not allow PVS to negotiate password. Remember this is managed by default domain controller policy but registry can be overwritten by deploying new registry value. How check this out

If this policy is applied on OU containing VDI then even default domain policy for password can be overwritten. Citrix has also release fix which address similar issue but not exactly the same issue CTX130273.

How to disable Printscreen on XA as well as Thin Client

If you would like to disable print screen permanently on XenApp 5.0 /6.0 , this can be done from XA policy as well by creating new registry value as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> System -> "CurrentControlSet" -> "Control" -> "KeyboardLayout" create a new binary key called Scancode Map
Value Data will be : 0000000000000000040000002AE037E0000037E00000540000000000
On linux based thin client WNOS.INI file needs to updated as follows:

1. xmodmap -e 'keysym Print = anyotherkey'
2. Comment out the key in /usr/x11r6/lib/x11/xkb/keymap/keycodes

It should be <prsc> = 111 so just put // in front

Now the buzz word across IT world is Go Green / Cloud computing /Go virtual /Green Computing. Everyone likes to use this word for various reasons but the million dollar questions

Is your organization ready for it?
Is this being forced by your management?
Is your support function / Infrastructure ready to take up new challenges?
Corporate users also want to use same slogan (Go Green… etc.) ?
Does solution provider understand your requirement?

We will try to acknowledge and outline some key points which is required to implement “Go Virtual”.

Corporate would like to implement “Go Green” mantra. They want to do it because their competitors have implemented it. They implement it because they want to establish capability proposition for their clients/customer “We are at par with latest IT trend”. There are very few who really understand that it is not just the mantra but also a social obligation. By saving electricity and reducing e-waste, IT world will be repaying to society.

To answer 1^st question: Are you really ready for this change? This question should be asked to each individual in an IT organization. Go Green bring huge change inside the organization. It does not only bring changes to your support model but as an end user it is required a mind set to accept change.

Answer for 2^nd question;

When management pass the bucks to their colleagues to sing “Go Green ” mantra they should take everyone into confidence. Management should also educate themselves about “Go Green” mantra before they expect their colleagues to follow. Such initiative comes from top or from middle tier. So how does this tier react with such initiative?

For example if these initiative comes from middle tier, most of the time it has influence from lower middle technical mindset who want to test few product and showcase their capabilities to their manager. Such sections of people do it

a) To learn and upgrade their skill for the know reason.

b) Influence by some vested interest to test certain feature. Major drawback with this approach is business direction, as these sections mostly lack such skill. Resulting in the bad investment.

If the initiative is business driven then it requires involvement of every layer of the organization, starting from the individual who will be conducting POC to the individual who would perform TCO . Most of the time such initiative are driven by business goal. Hence this goes through cycle of choosing the right product to right hardware and deploying right solution so that you can see expected TCO.

In usual world Organization send out the requirement to multiple vendors offering VDI solution. Vendor perform POC, showcase the capabilities and get management confirmation. Management then compares the available solutions along with the costing. Costing is the other deciding factor for choosing product and in my view it is a correct approach. In my experience, middle tier or lower middle tier always like to go with selective approach for various reason. These reasons can be either their personal interest or personal comfort level. Say for example if I am asked to work on Dell or IBM blade, I may not be comfortable as I am on HP. Having said I should not tell management as well as management should not take this suggestion for granted.

To conclude this post:

While choosing VDI solution for your organization we should follow these:

Choose correct VDI solution which suits your requirement.
Choose correct hardware to implement these VDI solutions.
Training support folks on these technologies are key to make VDI implementation successful.
Handling end user expectation is other key to success.
Organization goal above individual goals.

Outlook 2010 PST is supported over network share with VHD and Hosted Shared desktop

I have discussed in the past about deploying how to deploy desktop using flexcast model. Now major application is email client outlook. When we talked about outlook then we should also talk about PST and OST. Exchange has limited mailbox size and IT policy expects you to maintain your own PST . There is also archiving or backup solution.

In such situation you are provided with home drive where you have to dump PST . Since you are on VHD (VM hosted desktop ) or HSD (Hosted Shared desktop ) , you have to provide this home drive either via DFS/CIFS. In either situation you will be storing PST or OST over network. Most of the time people have a question and also knows the answer : PST is not supported over network share. This answer comes from following article directly or indirectly from Microsoft .

Sorry folks after a long time I am posting my new blog. I could not resist myself when I discover how to send CTRL +ALT+DEL on XenDesktop 5 running on WYSE C10LE client.
WYSE C10LE is dumb thin client running SUSI linux. The way to send all the config using WNOS.INI . This wnos.ini is store inside c:\inetpu\tftp on WDM server. WDM server is setup to manage all WYSE thin clients. WDM is licensed software is provided based on number of licensed procured.

Now comming to actual question how do we send CTRL+ALT+DEL to XenDesktop running windows 7 . When you try to lock it , it will get locked but then how do we unlock it?

Make a entry into WNOS.INI with following setting

Performance VM Appliance for XenServer

Citrix has made available the XenServer Virtual Machine Performance Utility. The utility is provided as a virtual appliance running Debian Linux which you can run on XenServer 5.5 or 5.6.

Basically you start with configuring a webserver on the performance VM, providing it with the ip address and credentials of the Pool Master, so the VM can control it. From a web page running on the performance VM you can then start the utilities.

The following test utilities are provided:

Disk I/O performance utility – From XenCenter you create and attach thin provisioned Virtual Desktops from the storage repository to the resource pool. Through the webservice running on the performance VM an inflate for the thin provisioned VM will be initiated, and this process will be measured performance wise. The following disk I/Os will be measured: sequential read/writes and random read/writes with various specified block sizes. In order to access performance data, the tool needs access to Dom0.

Network I/O performance utility – Which uses a modified version of netperf. Netperf runs on the back end and provides end-to-end request/response round trip latency and TCP/UDP throughput tests. For this it needs a Linux VM or dom0 at a remote site on which netserver, the receiving part of netperf must be installed and running.

Once appliance downloaded and imported , it should be placed on DHCP network to get the IP address. Supply Dom0 password which is nothing but a password of XenServer host where VM is hosted.

Once it is on DHCP address , url can be access using http://<IP ADDRESS of VM>:8888 and then IP address can be changed if required

Before you start the VM you should add the HDD for which you need test the performance.

Similarly network I/O’s can also be measured.

We came across very interesting performance issue on XenServer installed on HP Blade with Flex Fabric (Virtual Connect).

By default VC switch configured as default STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) . While uplinking virtual connect to the core switch , make sure that core switch port is configured for same STP . In our observation we found that core switch port were configured for MSPT (Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol) and link aggregation (LACP) were configured using 1GB port.

Due to STP configuration changes , convergence were talking some additional time. This results in RTO and packet drop which was causing XenApp session freeze.

Conclusion : If LACP is used to get 4GB thoughput on uplink , make sure that there are no protocol mismatch. Default protocol on VC can be changed to match core switch protocol.

Deploying Citrix XenDesktop with FlexCast

When I was reading about FlexCast delivery for desktop deployment , I had following question in my mind.

When you classify user to use XenApp hosted desktop?
When you classify user to use VM hosted desktop ?
How do you classify IOPs requirement for write cache ? Is it good idea to go with RAID 10 or RAID 5 ?

First let me explain what exactly is XenApp hosted desktop and VM hosted desktop is .

XenApp hosted Desktop (SHD) is : when virtual machine installed with XenApp is published and used as a desktop. Of course there are tweaks to be done on XenApp installed on windows 2008 server to have end user get a feel of desktop. Jo Harder blog talks about it.

VM hosted Desktop (VHD) is : When virtual machine installed/Streamed with windows 7 or XP are presented to the end user by the means of broker.

Now as we understood what exactly is SHD and VHD is , we will try to understand when we choose which model and why .

When we choose XenApp hosted Desktop (SHD):

While choosing XenApp hosted desktop (SHD) , we should remember that it scales better, cost less and is a lot more proven in the enterprise (Compare to XD). In certain case we can eliminate the need for shared storage. Are you are wondering how ? . When SHD model us used, more user can be accommodate on single machine.
But while selecting SHD model you may face challenges like
1.    Unique VLAN requirement: Suppose you are proposing SHD model and end user can not share VLAN . At that point of time you will have to choose VM per user group, though you can have 7 VLAN seen by single VM.
2.    Application which is not compatible with TS/RDS.
3.    Users demand their own user space.
4.    User requires high quality video/audio. It is recommended to go with XD.
5.    Technical requirements dictate a XD based solution. Something like VPN client which can’t work on SHD model.

With XA environment, over committing CPU is not something which is recommended. While choosing hardware, choose correct CPU model. CPU with HT enabled will get you more logical CPU. For example if it is a dual quadcore processer then logically you will get 16CPU ,whereas non HT CPU model will get 8 CPU. This will make difference to the consolidation ratio. HT enabled CPU will help you getting mode SHD.

With newer bread of CPU like Nehalem /Westmere , we can leverage HT for performance improvement as we as high consolidation ratio. Prior to Nehalem /Westmere it was advisable to stick with pCore to vCore mapping. More logical CPU means better CPU:RAM ratio and better overall utilization of hardware.
It’s probably the best trade-off between CPU and memory and still keeps the number of VMs per hardware low.

While choosing VHD:

There is much option like SHD . With VHD , overcommitting of CPU is acceptable. For memory overcommit DMC can be enabled which will help to squeeze a few more VM’s on a hardware. let’s say you get 100 XP VMs/blade and 50 Win7 VMs/blade. HSD’s via XA can give you 4-8x the amount of users/box!!! Even if we say 50 users/box on each of those XA VMs (very conservative), XA still could support 200 users/box where XD could support 50-100…that’s still 2-4x more scalable and it’s not uncommon in the real world to see a 3-4:1 ratio in the real world between XA:XD

Third question was what IOPs requirement for write cache. Write cache is write intensive which is around 80:20 write:read IOPs. Since it’s write intensive , RAID1/10 would recommended RAID model compare to RAID 5. Then question raised how do I size wirte cache drive. This would usually pagefile + writecache. It is advisable to place pagefile on a write cache drive for better performance and optimization.
For example if XenApp VM has been assigned 6GB of virtual memory , configure page file of size 4GB and leave other 6GB for write cache. So you will size storage for 10GB writecache. For VDI kind of environment, 5GB of writecache (Pagefile + writecache) drive is idle.

Size of the Writecache also depends on integration of profile solution and reboot cycle.

How to remove stale Host from XenCenter

Sometime you come across situation where host has not been ejected from the pool master. This host has been shutdown and decommissioned. In such situation stale host will not get out of XenCenter .

To remove ,try following steps

This needs to be run from windows box where xencenter is installed

xe –s <Pool Master ip address > –u root –pw <password of root pool master >

This will give UUID of stale host as shown below

Now run xe 0s <IP address of pool master > –u root –pw host –forget uuid=<stale host >

EdgeSight 5.3 has been implemented for XenApp 6 environment on Windows 2008 R2. While extracting XenApp summary it was throwing Reporting service error.

We looked at Reporting service on 2008 SQL server which was hosted on another windows server ,was working fine. Checked the link http://<localdb severver>/ReportServer and that also was fine. We reconfigure reporting services. We decided to enable remote errors using following steps

With this I rerun the report and found following error . This gave me more elaborated error message .This help us to troubleshoot further.

We realize something wrong with permission . We started looking at SQL server and set following permission.

How to License retail Branch Repeater VPX

Branch Repeater VPX in retail environment always get installed in remote mode . You cannot install license file on VPX locally and you need to use your existing license server. This blogs will guide you how to find out host ID of your license server and then download lic file.
1. To start with you need to find out host ID of the existing license server . For that go to the following path as shown below and run lmhostid command. This will give you host ID.

2. Once you have the host ID login to the My Citrix page . Select following

3. Select Activate /Allocate from dropdown. This will bring the list of product which is allocated for the user. Highlight BR VPX and click on Filter product .

4. Assign the quantity and supply the hostname gather from step 1.

5. License allocation will be completed and it will prompt to download lic file.

6. Import the LIC file under My files of license server. Restart the license server and it will reflect BR license under Dashboard of License page

7. Login to management page of BR and select Manage license . Check the box of remote and hit apply

8. Please wait till it configure the license server .

9. Once it is completed it will shows as following

10. This is fully licensed for 45M/S

I tried publishing new application on XenApp 6.0 on windows 2008 R2 and started giving error that configuration database is not available . I gave permission to citrix service under DeCOM for all the local DCOM user but still I was unable to make changes to XenApp Farm. I then found this Citrix forum discussion, but this did not work either.

Finally I found Citrix IMA service was set to start with local service account . I set to start with Network account. I re-run the Citrix configuration database and was finally able to create and publish application in XenApp farm.

When you publish IE on XenApp 6.0 on Windows 2008 R2 these two will bother you a lot . To disable these feature

Go to Start and click on “Server Manager”

Click on “Configure IE ESC” located on the right-hand section of the window.

The Internet Enhanced Security Settings page will be displayed. Disable necessary options. IE ESC is now disabled

Go to a GPO then pick computer or user then Policies (in Vista / 2008 and Windows 7) -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer

How to License NetScaler VPX 9.2

Login to NetScaler VPX web console and select license under system . You will find default service which get enabled when the appliance is not licensed.

Now collect the hostname which will be required on the licensing portal . This can be collect in various way. If this XenServer then you can find hostname under network and which is nothing but the mac address without “:”

Or ssh into netscaler vpx using putty and type shell then run “lmutil lmhostid –ether ” which will gives you same host name

Once you login to the secure portal of license site . Select the product as netscaler VPX and filter the product. Allocate the quantity and then type the hostname which you gather from above steps. Hit allocate

Confirm the allocation

Download the lic file

Now upload the lic file to the NS and then reboot the appliance to make the changes

Once the appliance is rebooted and came back the license will be updated for all the service which you have purchased.

We followed all the recommendation as per googling.

We were supplying instance name in the below box in every format as per googling.

P2V using VMWare convert version 4.2

I was working with XenDesktop where I was suppose to import physical desktop and convert that as a gold image. I install VMWare converter on my laptop and connected to the Virtual Center Server . Once it is connected I can find that under plugin manager the version shows as 4.2

Right click on the host and select

It will pop up and ask for all the relevant information

Make sure that if you are importing XP machine you should install Converter agent on it or else it will not detect it.

Coming to real cool feature which was not there with earlier version of VMWare convertor . You can edit only certain settings with earlier version but here you have lot many option .

The one which is new is “Synchronize Changes that occur to the source during cloning” . This would be very helpful when we are doing conversion for openfiles.

Now it also have feature where you can stop and start service at source and destination

This is other new feature which ahs been added.

How to create VM from snapshot on XenServer 5.6

XenServer gives you feature to create VM from Snapshot. In order to do that right click on snapshot on snapshot window

Then it will list the snapshots under template . Select the correct snapshot and proceed

Choose the name for the virtual machine

Select DVD drive and then empty because you don’t need any media to install this

Select the home server for this VM. In my case I just have one XenServer

This indeed gives you option to choose number of CPU and Memory

Choose location for disk to be stored. In my case it just have local drive

Supply network information . In my case it just have only one NIC card

Check the summary before you finish button

Here is your virtual machine up and running from snapshot. This looks cool to me since I did not find anywhere that you can create VM from snapshot.

Step by Step guide to setup iSCSI on a Dell MD3000i with XenServer 5.5

1. Initial setup and preparations on the XenServer.
a. On the XenCenter, create a new pool and add the appropriate host(s) to the pool. This is not necessary, but it is recommended. By doing so, you will end up with a system that has better scalability and easier manageability.Collect the open-iSCSI initiator’s iSCSI Qualified Name (IQN) of the XenServer. This serial number, when you highlight the host name, can be found under the General tab. Copy this number into your clipboard.

Configuration on Dell MD3000i
a. Configure the storage Array by creating virtual Disk array .

b. Select a new disk group and then hit next

c. Provide the name to this Disk Group and select manual since we have to choose the number of disk which will be assigned to this disk group.

d. Select the RAID group and then select all highlight all the disk , which you want be the part of this disk group. Click add to move it right panel.

e. Once it is added , the usable space can be calculated

f. Once Disk group is created then we need to create virtual disk group.

g. You can define the lun size which you want to present to the XenServer Host

h. You can define then mapping to the host group now or latter. Since there is no mapping done we will be choosing to map it latter and hit finish.

i. Now you will be create access manually for all the XenServer host with their respective IQN

i. Type the host name as it is and choose host type as “Linux”

j. Select new under ISCSI initiator type and hit “new”

k. Type the IQN which was collected in first part and host name will be populated by itself

l. Select the existing host group as you define it above.

m. Once all the host has been added then create host to virtual disk mapping

n. Select the host group to not the host and hit next

o. And finally this will be mapped

Attach lun to Xen Server host
a. Create a storage interface for communicating with Dell MD 300i

b. Specify correct IP address to communication with MD3000i

c. Select the XenServer pool and create new storage repository

d. Select ISCSI since it will be mapped using software ISCSI

e. Specify the name which looks like SR and then type the IP address of MD 3000i IP address. Click on discover lun , you will see the IQN of Dell storage

f. Click on discover lun to map the lun to the XenServer pool

g. You will find then which has been created in previous steps

h. If everything is configured it will be presented to pool like this

• The “dom0_mem=2940M” change gives more memory to dom0 which means that it can better handle large numbers of VMs. After changing this setting and rebooting, you then need to instruct dom0 to consume all of the memory allocated to it.

• On XenServer 5.5, including updates 1 and 2, the following sequence of commands can be used to achieve this:

You only need to execute those commands once. The values you set for the dom0 memory target are saved in the xapi database which persists across reboots.

• There are some (rare) circumstances in which XenServer adjusts the memory target automatically (adds more memory to the host), but these should not affect you because you have set the target as high as static-max.

This means that if you want to go back to the old behavior, with a standard-sized dom0, you must reverse your changes – rebooting does not revert your configuration. If you undo the edits to /boot/extlinux.conf and reboot, executing the same commands should have the effect of causing dom0 to revert to 752 MiB.

Caution! The default value for the “dom0_mem” parameter is 752 MB. There is a historic reason for this value. It may be that on some machines going above this value causes poor performance.

The default bonding mode for Citrix XenServer 5.5 is 1, or active-backup (slb). This mode only provides fault tolerance, since only one NIC in the bond is active at a time. For more heavily utilized production systems, an active-active configuration is preferable. The two bonding modes that provide full send/receive balancing across all NICs are 4 (802.3ad) and 6 (alb). Mode 4 provides link aggregation according to the 802.3ad specification, and requires an etherchannel to be configured on the switch.
The following is an example of how to configure an LACP/802.3ad bond with XenServer 5.5 and a Cisco 3750 switch running IOS.
First, configure your switchports for an LACP etherchannel. Note: in this case, we are making the etherchannel/Bond a trunk port which will only allow VLANs 2 - 11. We have two NICs from our XenServer that make up the bond0 interface, plugged int Gi1/0/1 and Gi2/0/1.

Nicbonding issue with XenServer 5.5 , when connected to resource pool

If a pool of servers is created, and NIC 0+1 is bonded with the management interface running on this bonded network. All configuration steps were done from XenCenter
Problem :A new XenServer is added to the pool, the NICs are un-bonded before adding it to the pool (but the same problem exists even if they are bonded).The new XenServer is added to the pool and it picks up the pool network configuration however the Bond0+1network shows as unknown rather than connected.
Below host GMHO-PXEN002 host has been added into resource pool and under “management interfaces” you can see it as “Network”

But for host GMHO-PXEN001 both the “Management Interfaces” are clearly visible with correct bond

At the pool level only three “Management Interfaces ” are visible.

I then checked the file under /proc/net/bonding on host 001 and found that there are two bond file as per two bond existence

I then checked the file under host 002 and found that only one file is there though there are two bonds

Resolution
Remove the Bond0+1 network from the pool (which obviously affects all servers) and create the bond 0+1 again. Now this bond shows as connected on all XenServers.
To cross check I checked the file under host 002 and found that there are two files now

At the host level also it is shown correctly

Dell answer to HP Virtual Connect :SR-IOV

They name this technology as SR-IOV (Single Root I/O Virtualization ).In this solution, instead of a hypervisor virtualizing an I/O device in the software and sharing that emulated virtual NIC with multiple VMs, a single I/O hardware itself is subdivided logically to appear as 128 virtual NICs. Each NIC is assigned independently and directly to a virtual machine to provide precise per-VM control for connection speed and quality of service.

In HP Virtual Connect , you basically control and divide LOM card on blade into 8 different nic and then it is presented to host . On host you create a virtual switch to share the nic.

How to attach RDM on XenServer VM ?

On a Local Storage, iSCSI, or Fibre Channel SR please complete the following:
Retrieve the universal unique Id (UUID) of the SR via the “xe sr-list” command, which can be modified. “xe sr-list | more” will display a page at a time as opposed to the previous command which will scroll off in a long listing. Another option is to filter by type. In the following screenshot, I use the “type=lvm”. Other filters can be “type=lvmoiscsi” for iSCSI, “type=lvmohba” for Fibre Channel.

Once we had gotten the UUID of the SR that we want to create a raw LVM virtual disk image (VDI) we need to use the following command where we use the parameter “sm-config:type=raw”:
xe vdi-create sm-config:type=raw sr-uuid=687a023b-0b20-5e5f-d1ef-3db777ce7ae4 name-label="My Raw LVM VDI" virtual-size=8GiB type=user We see that the command completes when we see a new UUID for the new VDI:556cf57b-8a1d-4211-8daf-6157956cac46

Once complete, we can see that the new VDI has a different label than other VDIs. There will be “LV-<uuid of the VDI> as in the following “lvdisplay | more” command:

Now we can attach this VDI to a new VM or an existing one if needed. Please be advised that when creating and using RAW logical volumes instead of VHD based logical volumes that all ability to take snapshots/clones of virtual disk images.
On the Storage Tab of the SR, you should see a new unformatted VDI:

HINT: When using the New VM wizard, please be sure to uncheck the do not start VM automatically on the last step.

To give little background ,P2V was attempted over 100MB Ethernet speed. Once we start getting above error , I decided to do some googling around web and found posting into Citrix form and found that someone else also got that error .

As per posting registry file for software was around 66MB.

I decided to perform one more attempt on local drive instead of network drive. This time it was successful in conversion but during OVF import it failed with some network related error

Source is F:\Xenconvert\GUREHDB02.ovf.

This gives us enough reason to look at network side. We decided to use Arconis and copy the file over CISF share. During copy it failed with error “Path to Deep”. Network team looked at error on Switch side and also setting was done to 100MB while host side it was set to “AUTO”.

In general host side and switch side setting should be the same. Setting was changed and we reran XenConvert tool to import OVF and it was successful.

Streamed OS using PVS: Users unable to login to Domain

Physical machine were successfully streamed via Provisioning server 5.6 but while logging into domain it won’t allow. To make this work one setting need to be on PVS console on that vDisk file under store

Until you make this setting , use will not be able to login to domain.

Service start for Citrix PVS Soap Service Failed (0x41d)

During PVS 5.6 configure wizard it throws the error ”Service start for Citrix PVS Soap Service Failed (0x41d)”

Make sure that you follow below two steps and reboot the PVS server .

.NET 2.0 SP1 install throw error code is 2711 with XenConvert Install

During XenConvert install it ask for .NET 2.0 SP1 as explained in following posting. During .NET install it will throw following error “The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2711”

This happen because .NET 2.0 SP1 installation got corrupted. Make sure you run repair for earlier install of .NET from add/remove program. It will ask for rolling out the earlier .NET SP1 accept it

Rerun the .NET 2.0 SP1 install and it will work

Update NIC driver on XenServer5.0 and 5.5

The way to update NIC driver would be straight or difficult based on what you are trying to do

First confirm the NIC model

Then check the driver version

Once these two thing are confirmed then download the latest driver from the vendor site .

Compiling the file

o Download the latest Broadcom driver from www.broadcom.com and then the XenServer DDK (this is specific to the version of XenServer you are running) from MyCitrix. Note to download the DDK you will need to login.

o After downloading the DDK ISO expand it using 7-Zip then import the appliance using XenCentre. This will import the DDK VM, all you need to do is ensure that you have a DHCP server running on the network you map the VM to.

o Expand the ZIP file downloaded from Broadcom and upload the contents using WinSCP to /root

o Logon to the XenServer console then expand the tar.gz file, for example tar -xzvf <tar file name>

o Traverse the resulting directory structure, for example cd netxtreme2-5.2.55/bnx2-2.0.8e/src

o Whilst in the src directory run make clean then make build

Copying the driver to the XenServer

o Using WinSCP copy the bnx2.ko file to your PC.

o Finally connect to each XenServer using WinSCP and switch to /lib/modules/<<<2.6xen>>>/kernel/drivers/net

o Rename the existing bnx2.ko to bnx2.ko.old

o Drag and drop the bnx2.ko file on your PC to /lib/modules/<<<2.6xen>>>/kernel/drivers/net

o From the XenServer console switch to /lib/modules/<<<2.6xen>>>/kernel/drivers/net and run chmod 0744 bnx2.ko

o Migrate any VMs to other hosts then reboot!

Once host is rebooted the version of driver will change . There are other tweaking which is suggested by blog

This process has to be repeated for all the four nic. This needs to be done on pool master. Above setting is recommended on Broadcom NIC.

No Packet Drops with XenMotion

I was trying to find out if there are packets drop during the Xenmotion. Surprises there were note even single drop of packet .Within this example Xenmotion took little extra time due to setup , as management interface is running on one NIC and recommendation is to have two nic bonded with ether channeling .
NOTE : Please remember this post is not to compare any other product but to highlight Xenmotion capabilities.

This is because XAPI which is responsible for communicating from XenCenter to XenServer is in hung state. Restart this service from Service console . You can also try "xe-toolstack-restart"

Error with XenServer: SR backend failed to complete the operation

While creating SR on Xen Server 5.5 U2 with backend storage as MD3000i , I was getting following error message

Troubleshooting steps:

1. I unchecked MP option on host and tried again it was able to see all the lun while doing lun scan

2. I then removed the host from pool and tried enabling MP and see if that worked but while scanning the lun it was still throwing same error message

3. Reconfigure all the virtual disk on MD3000i and check all the setting. Finally we found that on one controller if we change the prefer path then I am able to create SR or else it throws error

4. I had other setup with same storage as background. I moved this host into separate pool and checked the MP functionality. With this host I also copied /etc/multipath.conf file from the host which was working . I then restarted multipath /etc/init.d/multipathd restart

This worked great on different pool

5. Finally I updated multipath.conf on all the Xenhost and restarted multipath demon

6. From the controller side I have disabled IP V6 setting on one of the controller which was enabled

Finally with above two changes all the SR had MP enabled

XenServer: If UI seems stuck or invalid state

Working with Blade8:Configure VLAN for ESX host on Blade

With Blade networking is very important aspect if you are planning to roleout ESX on it. Because based on networking you will plan how you want to define this on VC-Flex10 module. There are many way you can define it but I like this :

a) Two LOM goes for Service Console

b) Two LOM goes for VM network

c) Dedicate two LOM for vmotion and confine traffic within VC domain.

d) Two LOM for NFS/ISCSI.

For VM network where you have to define multiple network. You need to create all the VLAN’s under shared uplink set which you want to trunk on VM network vSwitch

Vmotion network using internal link

1. For vmotion we will be creating a Ethernet Networks but will not be assigning any uplink to it

2. For rest all network it should be like this

3. Once this Ethernet link is created and blade has this profile assigned this nic can be used for vmotion. So create a vmkernel for vmotion, assign the IP address of your choice as the same IP address scheme you need to use it for all the vmotion vmkernel or else it will not work.

VM network using multiple network.

For VM network we create multiple VLAN on single vSwitch. This means VLAN should be in trunk mode. We also do tagging at ESX level .

Click on the tab as shown above and then it will pop up

Here you can select what ever VLAN you want be seen by VM network vSwitch.

SRM Error :Failed to recover datastore

We had setup srm with 4.0 U1 and VM’s were on ESX3.5 U4. We setup replication across location and then decided to simulate DR using “Test RUN” option. It goes and mount the lun on ESX host fine but when it try to recover VM’s it was failing with error “Error: Failed to recover datastore: ” .We then tried to run this with console to NetAPP filer open and we found that

NetAPP look at the error and told me that it is getting timed out during retry process and not really looks like space issue because “aggr”on which this lun was mounted had enough space.

I decided to test it myself and created two lun of size 100GB and 90GB . These lun’s had few VM with around 75% of free space. I ran SRM in test and DR mode and both worked great.
This gives me enough reason to believe that this is caused by space and not due to some bug.

I called NetAPP and shown him what actually I am doing. At this point they ran following command

Filer >> df -r testfailoverClone_nss_v10745371_S_XYZESX001PP

(This is actually the cloned volume which SRM were trying to mount).
It found that that fractional space is filled and because of which cloned
lun were not able to mount

During these test I understand that if protected lun is totally filled and then you try to run test SRM (FlexClone mechanism is used) against it . You have to make sure that at recovery site the volume should double the size as it try to mount the cloned lun on the same volume

SRM with NFS: Important consideration while creating NFS LUN

While implementing SRM with NFS , we have to follow certain guidelines for creating NFS volume on filer or else while configuring array we wont be able to see those volume.
a. Exports must be in the /etc/exports file. Manual exports made with the CLI without the –p option
will not be discovered by SRM.

b. Exports must use values in the RW (read/write) security field in the /etc/exports file. Exports using
the default setting of rw to all hosts will not be discovered by SRM.

Example of a /etc/export line that would be discovered by SRM:

/vol/srm5 -rw=192.168.2.0/24,root=192.168.2.0/24

Example of a /etc/export line that would not be discovered by SRM:
/vol/srm5 -rw,anon=0
So on filer if you run following
Filer101> exportfs -q /vol/nfstest
/vol/nfstest -sec=sys,(ruleid=564),rw=192.168.2.0,root=192.168.2.0
Where as 192.168.2.0 if the vmkernal IP created on Protected ESX host.

SRM: Replicated devices could not be matched with data stores

When I was configuring SRM SRA then I was getting following error when array where rescanned

Someone suggested thatFor ESX host 3.5 you would be enabling “LVM.EnableReSignature ” under advance option for esx host. ESX4 performs this function automatically where as in version 3.5 you had to enable it in the advanced settings section of the host configuration.This did not fixed my problem yet and then I followed KB 1016862 and its resolution says

“Virtual machine components can be on an array which is replicated to another array.

However, VMware does not support virtual machine components on multiple arrays which replicate to a single array as the VMX configurations do not match in terms of UUID of the datastores. Ensure that virtual machine components are not on multiple arrays that replicate to a single array.”

Well in our case it was different. Then I start looking at config again. I found that VM’s were mounted using different export IP then what I have added under array manger.

What I meant is NFS IP were different for ESX host and Array manager. I changed the IP and now I was able to see the datastore.

Existing IDE disk is not supported at the moment- Migrating VM from 2.X to 4.X

We had ESX V2.X running in our environment with couple of VM’s. It has highly impossible to have this host into our VC. So we disconnected the host and then copy the VM’s over to 4.0 host. Now we cannot add it into inventories since it has older hardware. We tried creating new VM and then attaching the vmdk which fails .

We tried enterprise convertor and then standalone to export the VMDK but it did not work. Finally we decided to clone the disk

vmkfstools -i source.vmdk dest.vmdk

We then created a new VM and then tried to attach the VMDK and we started getting error message "Adding existing IDE disk is not supported at the moment. IDE disks cannot be hot added or there are no free available IDE Controller slots.".

Solution

1. Unregister this VM from Virtual Center

2. Remove all scsi0:* lines from the VMs config file using a text editor.

3. Open the disk desciptor file in a text editor and replace "legacyESX" with "lsilogic". The descriptor file is the few hundred byte vmdk file.

4. Repeat this step for all the virtual disk files for this VM .

5. Register the VM again

6. Add disk(s) to the VM

If you do not edit the descriptor file and add the disk to a vSphere VM (with virtual hw v7) it will come up as a working IDE disk.

I've tried searching HP and VMware, but as you have said, information is very sparse. The closest I've come up with is a mention about the HPSIM certificate in the iLO2 (http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1271902147498+28353475&threadId=1375014 )

I suggested him to

1. Try reinstalling SIM agent again with host reboot.

2. I would also engage HP since SIM is free product from them.

3. Check ILO (Since I am not sure which DL version you are using) if there are any option or Insight web GUI where you can disable such events

To disable the alerts add : exclude cmasm2d to the file: - /opt/hp/hp-snmp-agents/cma.conf and restarted the agents: /etc/init.d/hp-snmp-agents restart

How to setup Link mode for Virtual Center 4.0

Today I have done VC upgrade and here is blog for the same. During the VC upgrade it did not ask me for setting VC in link mode which becomes very much necessary when you have multiple VC across environment.

Few things you should know

1. Link mode feature is not available to you if you are holding license for “foundation or essential edition ”. This required stander edition of VC license.

2. It uses ADAM (Active Directory Application Mode ) database to replicate it’s configuration between multiple VC.

3. ADAM stores :

* Connection information (IP addresses and ports)

* Certificates and thumbprints

* License Information

* User Roles

4. Permission can be configured on VC basis.

5. Single VC can manage 300 ESX host with 3000 VM but linked mode can manage 1000 ESX host with 10000 VM’s

More features are available here.

You have to re-run the setup for VC server installation. It will walk you through wizard

It will then detect the VC instance and prompt you for VC link mode setting

By default the link mode configuration will be selected

It will then prompt you to provide server name for which you are connecting

Make sure you have selection as below.

And that is about it.

Why Virtual machine swapfile location is grayed out?

I was trying to figure out why Virtual machine swapfile location is grayed out as shown in the pics below

What I understood is that it inherits properties from cluster. If the cluster has been set to store the swap file on VM then the pic above will be like that.

So you need to choose second option if you have to store swap as per your convenient . Such configuration is done incase where is the requirement to have swap at separate location

Upgrading Virtual Center from 2.5 to 4.0

One of the best upgrade I have done from Virtual Center 2.5 to Virtual Center 4.0 U1. I have done many upgrades where you have to through many pain of redoing the work post upgrade but with 4.0 U1 upgrade it was smoothest and cleanest one. Just pop-in the CD and next –next period.

Here is how I performed it

1. Make sure you have exported all the relevant information from VC so that if any issue comes during the upgrade , you should be able to handle it. Also make sure you have done latest backup of SQL server used by VC. This is how the VC ISO menu looks like and choose

2. It will then detect the VC already running

3. Agree to license agreement and then proceed

4. Fill the correct information

5. t may give message like this and let SQL admin knows about it

6. Type user name with which it can authenticate. Remember this can be your user name since it is just for the authentication purpose

7. Choose the option below as shown and check the box which is mention or else it will not allow to move forwards

8. Here is the option which allow to run the account as a service . Best practice is to run with system account

9. Let this be at default

10. Relax and sit tight till it is done

11. This will do numerous thing during that process

12. Finally it will show like this

Congratulation you have completed the VC upgrade successfully . With my 100+ host environment , I only came across on host which was in disconnect state . It also understand about VC2.5 licensing .

Adding additional vmfs volume on ESX host

We may often come across situation that local VMFS volume is exhausted and you have to add additional VMFS. I have written two different blog regarding the same .

One was how to use ACU from web and other was to create additional vmfs if you not able to see the logical volume

In this one we are adding additional drives in the available DL380 and then creating additional vmfs partition.

1 Reboot the ESX host and get into ACU (Array Configuration Utility ) BIOS by pressing F8 on key board. This will bring screen where you can see menu for configuring Array . We need to select first one as shown below

Once we select that ,next screen will show all the available disk . We make sure that you select RAID 5 and then press enter to create this logical drive

It will then provide summary for the total logical space and asking to press F8 to save the configuration

Press continue to see the total logical volume created

It will then show the summary along with newly created logical volume . Here you can also see the previous logical volume

Reboot the host and go to virtual center . Select the configuration from the host and then choose add storage

It will then run the wizard for creating new VMFS partition . Make sure that you select Disk/Lun

It will then show the newly created logical disk

It will show the warning but continue with space creation

Give the name as _storage

Go with default

End it will provide summary

Now you will have two VMFS volume, one old one and other one newly crated

Step by Step: Installing HP SIM on ESX4.0

Today I have installed HP SIM on BL460C G6 . I followed my earlier blog and little bit of change in answer script.

First of all you need to download correct SIM agent for your hardware. So select the your server model and then from “Software – System Management ” page download correct tar (hpmgmt-8.3.1-vmware4x.tgz)file. Follow the blog till steps 13.

Then the answer file looks like this :
